Event details will not be announced until the full lineup is announced. For now, I will explain to you what Huntington's Disease is, which is the reason I'm putting this together in the first place.
What is Huntington's Disease?
•Huntington’s Disease (HD) is an extremely
devastating, neurological disease that affects one in every ten thousand
people. To date there is no treatment and no cure for HD.
•This genetic disease, on average, results in
death twelve to fifteen years after the onset of symptoms in adult patients.
•Although most persons with HD develop
symptoms in mid-life, about 10% of people who inherit HD, will have the
juvenile form of the disease(JHD).
Parents who daily care for children with JHD will experience the
development of symptoms at an accelerated and elevated rate.
•Symptoms usually appear during the middle of
people's lives, between the ages of 40-45.
The symptoms start with depression and severe mood swings that affect
not only the individual, but anyone they may come into contact with. Next, the
disease eats away at the cortex of the brain that is vital to memory, speech,
and basic motor functions, such as walking.
•At about seven years after the onset of
symptoms, the HD patient can no longer control the movement in their arms,
legs, or neck. This tragic symptom, called chorea, causes the extremities to
spasm constantly, making it nearly impossible for a once fully functioning
human being to take care of themselves. Because of this, family members or paid
workers are tasked with non-stop care taking.
